Côr Meibion Abercynon was formed in 1970 at the former Junction Hotel in Abercynon. There were originally 20 members and today four of them still sing with the choir. Currently the choir consists of 29 members but always warmly welcomes new or prospective members.  The choir are supported by a ladies section which contributes strongly to the success of the choir. They are constant companions and supporters at our concerts, social events and on tour.

The choir have performed concerts supporting many charitable organisations including Ty Hafan, The Rowan Tree Cancer Care, The George Thomas Hospice Appeal, Cancer Research and the Starlite Childrens Foundation. The choir has travelled extensively, performing throughout the United Kingdom and has also toured Brittany, Ireland and Canada. Members of the choir have performed at the Massed Choir Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall London, the Colston Hall Bristol, the Brangwyn Hall Swansea, the Afan Lido in Port Talbot, Cardiff Arms Park, the Millenium Stadium the Cardiff International Arena and at Remembrance Services held at St David’s Hall, Cardiff.

In 2007, the choir visited Scotland on a tour which included three concerts staying at Grantown on Spey.

In addition to events at some 15 venues, 2011 saw the choir tour Corwall performing in concert in Cambourne for the Trevithic Society and meeting up with members of the Newquay Male Voice Choir. The Annual concert held at St Donat's Church Carnetown Abercynon with guest artistes Holly Davies, Tranquillo and Cantabile Girls Choir of the Hereford Cathedral School was the highlight of the year. During the latter part of 2011 the choir were pleased to take part in Rememebrance concerts/services and parades for the Royal British Legion at Ynysybwl and Abercynon and appeared at the Help the Heros Concert held in the Hawthorne Leisure Centre Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd.

Engagements for 2012 look exciting, with bookings for Cyncoed Cardiff, Henley on Thames, Mountain Ash, Nelson and Church Village already accepted, whilst on March the 24th, the choir will be joining the Massed Choirs of the Association of Male Voice Choirs in concert at the Manchester Arena.
